There has been a history of Drainage Systems for hundreds of years now and with them becoming more advanced as technology improves there is more need than ever for people to become Drainage Engineers.
Within the sector of Drainage Services there are many different roles to be carried out by drainage engineers ranging from those that work solely on problems routed on the surface, to others that specifically work on drainage systems under ground.
Here are some different examples of roles carried out by drainage engineers in the drainage services sector and how the systems have advanced since the start of drainage systems;
Development of Drainage Systems
There have been vast developments from the original drainage systems used through out the UK in the past to the systems you see in use today. It has taken many years for the drainage systems of the UK to get to the standard they are at present and in the start of drainage systems they were used purely to remove excess rain water from the land.
It wasn't until the 19th Century that people began to use drainage systems to remove their waste water this being the main reason for the large amount of illness around at that time. In the beginning the drains were open on the surface unlike the Under Ground Sewer Networks you see in place today.
Modern Day Drainage Systems
Drainage systems in place today also treat the water so that it is at a safe standard to be released back into Natural Water Supplies such as the sea. This is because at one point the waste water was just being released into natural water supplies causing great damage to the wildlife in that area as it destroyed their habitat.
When one species is affected it starts a chain reaction of damage because the wildlife that relies on that particular species to survive begins to suffer. There are now laws in place that protect the wildlife against unsafe water being disposed of.
Career as a Drainage Engineer
There are many different roles within the sector of drainage services from installation to maintenance and repairs. To again access to drainage services as a career you would need to have at least 5 GCSE's grades A-C before being able to further your education in any area of the sector.
Of course one of the main roles within drainage services are Plumbers because they are expected to be able to solve all problems with regards to all kinds of water networks inflowing and out flowing both with hot and cold water supplies. As well as the drainage of waste water and Safe Drinking Water they are also important when it comes to the correct functioning of your Central Heating Systems.
There are obviously other roles such as drainage engineers besides plumbing but plumbing covers many different areas of drainage services that most people entering it as a career can learn the basics of many drainage roles by starting an education in plumbing.
With there being so many different aspects of drainage systems as technology behind it advances there are more roles needing to be filled by those qualified to carry the job out. If you have any problems with your drainage system be sure to hire someone that has the right expertise and experience for your particular problem.
